Yash Thakur Replaces Injured Harshit Rana in India’s Squad for Afghanistan T20Is and Asian Games

Fast bowler Yash Thakur has been named as Harshit Rana’s replacement for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan as well as the Asian Games. Rana was ruled out of the three games against Afghanistan after picking up an injury following the rehab at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
The Injury Crisis
The defending T20 World Cup winners are currently facing a challenge as to how to manage their bowling resources with a number of bowlers getting injured in quick succession. The list includes now-fit Jasprit Bumrah, who was ruled out for the recently concluded two-match Test series against Sri Lanka after picking up an injury in the three-match ODI series against England. Having said that, Bumrah has recovered in time to feature in the series against Afghanistan and the Asian Games.
The Backup
Other than Bumrah, the likes of Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy have also regained full fitness and would aim to give their best in the comeback series against Afghanistan in order to be in good rhythm for the matches to come across formats, including an all-format tour of New Zealand in October, which will see the two teams go head-to-head in five T20Is, as many ODIs and two Tests, both of which will be a part of the ongoing World Test Championship cycle.

The Performance
If we talk about Yash Thakur’s performance in T20 cricket, the pacer made his international debut in the three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe and impressed everyone with his ability to nail yorkers in the final five overs, making him the kind of bowler who can partner Bumrah in the shortest format of the game going forward. Thakur earned his maiden international call-up after an impressive performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy last year here; he picked up 18 wickets while playing for Vidarbha and followed it up by picking four wickets in two matches in his debut series at an economy of 9.37.
